I have complex partials as well. I was technically diagnosed at age 16, but have had them since age 7 (i'm 35). I don't have an aura at all. Most of the time I function really well when having them--you wouldn't even know it was going on--but about a month ago I had a gran mal. It happened since we were trying a new medicine, which obviously didn't work! I was on Zonegran and Trileptal, but we tried adding Vimpat and going on Zonegran. So now I'm back on Keppra and Trileptal. Keppra really has been the best for me so far, but it is trial and error.

Right now I'm not driving for a few months. My doctors have never reported it to the DMV. I take the train to work, and then the subway (I live 30 miles from work). Luckily, I have a great employer--I already work 4 days a week (9 hr/day), and they're letting me work 2 days from home.

I totally understand the loss of independence piece--it is really hard asking friends to take me to the store, around work, keeping me entertained :) My weekends are pretty boring now!! But I've gone through this a few times, so I know what to expect. Keep your chin up!

My name is Caryn. I am 44 and have had simple partial seizures since around 2000. Recently I have been having auras like I had in the past but now I pass out soon after I feel the aura begin. I haven't met with my neurologist since I have experienced these changes. We spoke this week by phone and I hope to get an appointment with her next week after getting an MRI and EEG. When we spoke on the phone my doctor said these are now complex partial seizures. I am on Zonegran and she has added Trileptal. I joined this group because I really am in need of others to talk to who understand. I also have a lot of questions but I will end my intro now and save my questions for later.
