RE: [epilepsy] Epilepsy and coffee

Hi Adrien, RE: The storms.. It is changes in Barometric pressure that effect
many including my daughter. So much so we bought a Barometer. We live in So
Cal, and even though we rarely get storms or rain we get incoming High
Pressure systems that cause hot windy days. Always thought it was the wind
till someone told me about the Barometric Pressure because it effects her
Diabetes too.

Dehydration is an even bigger factor in Epi. Chronic low level Dehydration
is NOT Noticeable and has Nothing to do with the temperature or weather.
Many people get dehydrated in the winter because cold does not trigger
thirst mechanisms! Without proper hydration our bodies don't properly
assimilate and transport the meds. Dehydration causes increased cellular
Oxidative Stress a much known trigger of seizures.

Hi liz

I don't think it was dehydration as it isn't hot here, we've
had nothing but rain for the last 6 weeks or so. On Friday
though we did have some thunder storms, I know they play
havoc with my epilepsy. Strange.

Regards

Adrien

Could you have been dehydrated? Caffeine is a diuretic, so
if you aren't getting proper fluid--especially in the summer
heat--you'll dehydrate. Make sure to get adequate food, too.

Hi

Last week I increased my tegretol on the instructions of the
neurologist, on Friday I felt very ill, almost depressed, I
only took 3 extra tablets, Wednesday night, Thursday and
Friday mornings, I couldn't do anything. I immediately put
it back down to my original level, it was only increased
from 1000 mg per day to 1100 mg per day. 600 mg morning and
500 nights. I obviously couldn't cope with the higher
amount. Anyway, since then I have gradually felt better, it
has taken 5 days to settle down again. Today I feel ok, no
real problems, just a slight muzzyness but I am ok. Monday I
felt very bad. I suppose because I was worrying about it, I
was making it worse. Today I have done two things, only
drunk 2 cups of coffee and have kept myself busy getting
ready for my holiday.

This is my question, do some brands of coffee interact with
some medications? It just seemed odd to me that I not having
drunk much coffee today, I feel better. Very strange.

Regards

Adrien
