[fast5] Re: two weeks in

> I'm interested in hearing your story on F5 since you've been on it for 4 years now and successfully at that!

Well, I heard about it on a bodybuilding forum and thought it sounded logical. Since humans have never had access to meals 3-6 times a day, I thought the premise made a lot of sense so I tried it, loved it, and here I am. The only real down side of it for me has been that most people tie relationships together through food. So since I stopped eating lunch, people at work were a little put off and couldn't comprehend the idea that just because I didn't want to eat with them didn't mean I didn't want to BE with them. Maybe they just get uncomfortable realizing how much they're eating when I'm around. Fast-5 seems to be a gateway to a clearer understanding of human behavior and as time goes on, it's about much more than a diet but about a world view focused on simplicity. For instance I had a revelation early on that if just one million people did Fast-5, it would completely destroy the small restaurants that cater to the lunch crowd. At $10 a day, times one million, that would take 10 million dollars out of the lunch economy- that's 3.65 BILLION dollars a year taken away from restaurants! It's very powerful and can affect huge change. I commend Dr Herring for providing this idea for free. And after all is said and done, we're more healthy by eating less frequently and we have a few extra dollars in our pockets.

My food choices have evolved over time from just eating whatever I wanted during my window to my current zero-carb food choices. Most nights, I'll just throw 2 pounds of ground beef in a pot and cook it until it's mostly brown with a few splashes of Crystal hot sauce. Other nights I like to combine 4 hard boiled eggs, a can of tuna and a TBSP of sour cream, salt and pepper into a bowl and eat it with a spoon. Sour cream is great replacement for mayonnaise in tuna! I'll do that twice in one evening during my window. Weekends I might have a rack of ribs, or a steak cooked rare and fried eggs. My diet is extreme to most but to me it's just the ultimate in simplicity.

I do drink water, decaf black tea, and decaf coffee during the day. Maybe a total of 5-6 cups. And yes, I drink Diet Rite, Zevia, and Waist Watchers diet sodas as they don't have Nutrasweet. They're flavored with Splenda which tastes better to me and doesn't give me headaches or "The Grumpies". And most nights I'll have a shot or two of whisky, bourbon, or cognac in my soda.

I do lift heavy weights twice a week, and I walk around Washington DC (where I work) for an hour every day at lunch. I believe in short, intense workouts- get in and get out (sneak attack). I'm convinced that exercise isn't required for weight loss but I'm a firm believer in "Use it or lose it".

I really can't comment on this other than to say, just keep doing it. You'll hit plateaus at some point and you may have to adjust your intake or types of food to get over the hump- that's covered in Dr Herring's book. Everyone is different, so you'll have to find what works for you. Don't be afraid to experiment!

> I know this is a lot of questions, I appreciate any response you would have time for.

I hope that helped some and keep up the good work. Oh that's right, it's not work at all, is it? :)
