Sue,
At first I was told they only needed to x-ray the hips -- but I think they did more this last time.
They told me that all that was necessary.
They could tell that my left hip socket is smaller than the right this time.
If you have a bone density test taken -- ask your doctor to give you a written report and they
will give or send it to you. I also have the reports sent to me from my blood tests every year.
The report also told me that I could easily break a bone. I did have a broken ankle and the
doctor said because I have Osteoporosis he put 3 screws in it. I have not trouble with my ankle.

Subject: [epilepsy] OT Re: Bone Density Test
I have never had one because the medical newsletter I used to get (for medical providers) stated that this test only samples a couple of places where most folks lose bone density first. In other words, if you flunk it you probably have osteoporosis but if you pass it, it's inconclusive because you still may be losing bone density though not in the couple of places they scan.
The good news is osteoporosis can be reversed or prevented by doing regular weight bearing exercise like walking a few times a week, and a 1200 mg calcium intake daily which is easily obtainable from milk or yogurt.
