I can't say that I know, but I think surgery is decided based on:
- how many seizures a person has and how they interfere with a
person's life
- what type of seizures occur
- how many medicines or combinations of them have failed
- age of the person
- likelihood of success
- results of lots of tests
- thoughts of various other doctors; it wouldn't be just one doctor's
decision
There is non-invasive, radiation surgery as well, so one type might be more likely to be chosen than the other.
