[epilepsy] Intro...long.

Hi all. I'm Stacey and I live in New Zealand. I'm a solo Mum of 3 but I have a fantastic relationship with my husband (we're separated) and he actually lives across the road from us.

My kids are Hannah (14), Darcy (12) and Leon (3).
Hannah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2009 and we have had a rocky road since then. She has had 8 seizures since she was diagnosed and at first we (and the docs) thought they were diabetic seizures. Over the last few months however we have discovered that she has some type of epilepsy as well. Last October she had an EEG which showed epileptic discharges (I think that's what the technician said) and since then we've had 2 consults with her Ped (the last one was 4 days ago) and subsequently she has started Epilim (I think it's called depakote in the US). From my recent research I think she has juvenile myoclonic seizures. When her blood sugars are very low she jerks and sometimes this is followed by a seizure.....we always thought they were diabetic but now we are wondering. Of the 8 seizures all but 2 have been on awakening and she's been over tired as well which fits with the epilepsy.
Looking back at all her seizures, we are kinda able to distinguish which ones were possibly diabetic and which ones were epileptic but I'm wondering whether they can actually piggyback each other?

I'm very confused and so would LOVE to find someone else whose child has both diabetes and epilepsy.........AND crazy surging hormones. LOL

Regards
Stacey
