Hi everyone. I am Amy, from Florida. I have had epilepsy for 22 years. Recently I had been seizure free (well, grand mal free) for 3 years. Right after Easter, I suffered a grand mal seizure in my kitchen. It caused me to fall, hitting my head on the tile floor. I suffered a traumatic brain injury. I fractured my skull and had 3 areas of bleeding on my brain and frontal lobe swelling. I had two additional seizures right after that. I had never had more than one in a day before. I spent a few days in critical condition, then was moved to a regular room. I then went on to a nursing home for rehabilitation for 8 days. I am home now with a home health nurse and physical therapist. I am still having massive headaches and get dizzy quite often. I also developed a tooth ache after the fall, but it was just a come and go thing, until today and it is awful. It feels like my teeth are going to pop out of my head. Has anyone ever had that happen after a seizure? Right now, I am taking 3000 mg of Keppra a day and 400 mg of Dilantin at night. I have 3 children already and not planning anymore. I was on Tegretol while I was pregnant, but it stopped working for me. I have been on many anti-seizure meds over the years and have always ended up having break through seizures. I believe my doctor is considering the VNS. My memory is so fuzzy in the days surrounding my injury and I hate that feeling. My nurse is recommending the ketogenic diet, but not really as strict as going in the hospital to begin it and such. So I suppose it would be a modified one. Is anyone using that to control their seizures? Anyway, sorry to talk to much. I hope to get to know you all soon.
