Hi Leah,
I know exactly what you are going through. I've been through it all myself. I have had Epilepsy for 47+ years now. With uncontrolled seizures most of those years. You are not alone. I went through the depression stage back in the 90's. I lost my job and other careers to seizures occurring every day. It put me in a deep depression period.
Where it seemed like no one cared about me at all. I put myself in a stress clinic 3 different times to get help. In 2001, I had to have brain surgery to put a stop to the 50+ seizures I was having per week. My medications were changed and I was put on anxiety medication along with the epilepsy medications. I had to have a 2nd surgery in 2008 to have a nerve stimulator put in. I now have fewer seizures. Still on medications. In the last year I have only had 4 seizures. I am currently taking Keppra 750mg 2 twice daily, Lamictal 200mg 1 twice daily. I am also taking Lorazepam 0.5mg 1 twice daily for the anxiety. Lorazepam is a generic for Ativan. It does not work with some epilepsy medications. I suggest talking with your doctor about other medications and maybe consider asking about the vagal nerve stimulator. Even though the stimulation setting can be annoying at times but it does work for me. Something I do when I can feel my nerves begin to act up. Is
to put on some comfortable music using my earphones and read or do a sudoku puzzle book and my nerves begin to settle down. And it has prevented a seizure from occurring. There are other ways to prevent a seizure from happening. But this works best for me. I don't have anyone else that will take the time to help me or see me through my stress and/or depression. Well, hope this can help you. You need to talk at anytime, I'm here online usually every other afternoon. Depends on if my computer cooperates. Will keep you in prayer
God Bless!!

I am struggling with a depression that is worsening due to my epilepsy. I have had medicine controlled Epilepsy for 22 years, until January 2012. THen I suffered a very damaging grand-mal. Since then my seizures have become intractable, medicine only lessens the amount of grand mals and peti mal. I went from being a very active 30 yr mother of 3 who worked for many years in the operating room, to a shut in who has lost my career of 10 years, cant do anything I once did and now lives as a depressed shut in. I feel alone even though my family is trying hard to help. What do I do? I am on many meds and wonder if I should try anti depression meds. Does anyone have words of advice for me. Thanks, Leah.
