[epilepsy] Re: Change in memory

 

Hi Doris,
That is a question that when I'm feeling really down, I ask myself. Was surgery worth it? My answer is a giant YES! Yes my memory is worse, yes it gets king of frustrating at times also. BUT, I can drive, I can go when and where I choose. I can do things I couldn't do in the past because of seizures. I'm now not limited on how much time I spend on my computer, or time on tv, how many hours I am near bright lights also. And, I'm needing 1-2 hours less sleep each day. Not being scared of seizures being triggered by so many different things even gets my daily life away from thinking epilepsy 24/7 though it's remember because of instances regulary with memory all the time. I'm so different since surgery, weird because I'm venturing out of the woodwork more.

Last week or a few weeks ago I was really getting down on myself allot more than usual, but that only lasted a week or so. But by what I said here, you can easily see I typed allot more positive than negative. Its been 4 3/4 years since surgery and I'm still seizure free!

Oh also, It was 91 degrees and very humid in the Chicago suburbs on Wednesday. I took the day off work, went with a friend into the forest preserves and hiked with her from trail to trail totally hiking 13 miles! If I hadn't had surgery, I wouldn't have lasted that long without a seizure. And yes, I am still young, I'm only 53 years young (smile).

Post surgery, my day seizures completely stopped however nocturnal ones began and I still get these and take Lamictal. Just wonderning what you think and how you may be dealing with this. Thanks.
