Linda,
I, like you, like to play word games. My favorite is Tex-Twist on the computer.
You make words out of scrambled letters that they give you. I think it keeps your
brain active.

Subject: Re: [epilepsy] Keppra/Lamictal speech problems
Hi, I haven't posted for a long time but I been in the group for a good while. I
am 59 years and I live in Ohio. I take Keppra XR 1500mg daily and Zonegran
3-100mg. caps daily too
for a seizure disorder due to stress that started about 15 yrs ago. I have
memory loss and also problems with word recall too. I stammer a bit when I can't
figure out what I want to say, which is hard but I never had trouble with
spelling words. I guess it might be I'm always playing word games and keeping my
mid woking, I don't know. I've had learning problems all my life but never with
spelling and reading.
It might help if someone has problems with this is to play word games on
the computer like Scrabble or any other spelling games. I have an old computer
just for games, not Internet and I play scrabble on it a play against the
computer on my own time.
Timed games on the internet makes me nervous. It helps me alot. Using Word
search games is also good for spelling. Anything to keep your train of thought
going! Actually
after playing Scrabble alot I go to bed and see words and letters in my sleep!
LOL
Learning to use the computer was hard for me. The what to do next process.
Another thing I wanted to know if any of you have problems with noise and
confusion?
Like me being inside with noise and confusion with people talking I can't
tolerate. Being in a gym with buzzers going off and people screaming and balls
bouncing is absolutely terrible. Social situations are a no-no for me especially
if inside. If it is outside it's not so bad. Music being played at the gym we
go to is loud sometimes so I use ear plugs. I have to have it very quiet to read
and and to sleep to and no lights to disturb me. Lights
also bother me. Do you think this could be my meds?

Subject: [epilepsy] Keppra/Lamictal speech problems
I am checking with the group to see if any of you have had the same problems. I
am taking 2000 mg Keppra and 450 mg Lamictal each day. I often have headaches
and have noticed an increase in speech problems. Most the time it is word
recall. I often replace words with other words. Lately, I need to slow down my
speech to get out what I want to say.
My level for Lamictal is good and my Neurologist said my Keppra level doesn't
need to be checked. He wants to put me on a third medication because I still
have myoclonic seizures. It is supposed to be related to Keppra and the side
effects are dizziness and headaches.
He told me my medications shouldn't be causing the speech problems and he thinks
it is seizure activity in my brain causing damage to that area. So, I am
checking with the rest of the group to see if they have had speech problems with
Keppra or Lamictal. Or, if they have seen a progression of worsening speech due
to uncontrolled seizure brain activity.
