I wish more pharmacies did the pre-packaged pills. We only have 2 left in the area that do. It's a big help.
I definitely agree Nedra--keeping a list of your medications with you, the mg/dose, your allergies and bringing it with you to every doctor appointment is an excellent idea. My friend did that when she went through cancer and handed them out to everyone.
I'm always asking my elder clients for their med list--they either don't know them, or don't know how many milligrams they take. It definitely makes it easier on us case managers!

Nedra,
I work with elders, and you may want to let your friends know there are machines that can separate and dispense medication. Of course, they have to be filled by someone, but if a parent is unable to follow a weekly pill case, this machine can be filled with a month's worth of medications. I know our agency will purchase it if they receive services from us--we just build it into their service plan.

Thanks. I know. I also know there are pharmacies that will put the meds in plastic packets. My friend's father's meds had just changed so he doesn't have a standard medication plan just yet. But I will pass this on to him. I have 3 special needs kids and I have health issues so I have to manage medications for several people which is why I have my system. Due to insurance and one member on Social Security, we do a combo of mail order and local pharmacy.
I have my system in place and the directions for it in case I get hit by a bus so my spouse knows how to do the medications, when things are due, ect. Also as a special need parent, I don't know if my son will ever be able to manage by himself so I have to have things written in place cause I am not always going to be here.
