Re: [Prince-4ever] Re: prince's speech

& he had to promote the new album, I know you saw that shirt he was wearing that looked like only he or a woman could get away with wearing ... LoL
My parents TRAINED me on keeping my mouth shut about things. Some of us know how the people we look up to and respect may not like things we do or listen to. I know my family didn't like Hip Hop that I liked back in the day when Emcees/Rappers started cursing and having the parental stickers that Prince made famous by the way from his Purple Rain album.

I heard that, fam. I may need counseling 2 stop arguing with my peeps over the genius. But even they were shocked when I didn't get angry after the junk they were talking. I loved his speech & just his presence overall. It's just that itty bitty part threw me off. He was referring 2 the young artists out there in saying that they didn't have 2 make the same mistakes. If it was personal, he shouldn't have any reason 2 say that 2 the artists out there. Because he is VERY guarded about his personal life & no one would have a clue what he meant. I'm more than sure that the young artists know next 2 zero about P's private life. So it wouldn't have made any sense 4 the genius 2 say that. So by him not being more specific, it opened up a lot of drawn conclusions. ..including dissing what made him a rich icon. If it weren't 4 his younger days, he wouldn't have been on stage receiving this honor.....or his induction in2 the Rock N' Roll H.O.F. & other honors.

But even with his debatable statement, dude is the definition of GREAT!!! It was SO cool just 2 see him. And I'm sure that he'll say that it was good 2 b seen. ;)

I don't think anybody got what he was saying save just perhaps Bria, Mayte, Mani or someone who's spent an extensive amount of time with him. I'm the point now where I could care less what anyone thinks save "us" on the Yahoo! Groups and some members of some of the Prince Fan Forums I'm a member of. I am so used to defending him that it makes me look like a fanatic. Which I am hardcore and everyone that knows me knows that, if I allow them in my "inner circle", so to speak. I thought P's speech was very humble and direct to the point. It sounded like he was talking to us and himself. It kind of reminded me how sometimes I've heard my parents say, don't make the same mistakes I have. It's in the same "vein". I do not feel he was talking about the "music" he may have been talking about his business decisions or perhaps things he said in the moment of passion about this or that. I

> U all know what? I was hoping that P would have made it plain & get deeper on what he meant by that. If he's talking about his music, I am confused. Why? Because from day 1, this genius had a positive message generally in his music. He may have took an abstract way in delivering his message. But it was positive nonetheless. And is his past works & per4mances were "mistakes", his "mistakes" sure made him who he is 2day. Not 2 mention, made him crazy RICH! And pretty much influenced about a billion artists...myself included.

> And my family members & a few of my friends started attacking him after that statement. Which made me wish that he would've explained it in detail even more. They started saying stuff like "he should be talking about his mistakes on YouTube & that Hip Hop crap instead of dissing on his career!" I couldn't argue or defend his statement because I, myself didn't get where he was coming from. It did kinda made it seem like he was discrediting his marvelous and, in my opinion, his BEST work & per4mances in his "wild" younger days. Prince ALWAYS had a positive message. Maybe he was misunderstood. But that didn't mean it was negative. I wish he NEVER said that statement. As an artist, I would LOVE 2 make those so-called "mistakes" that he did.
