[epilepsy] Re: light sensitivity-glasses

HI,
Sorry you have to add another dx to the list. Been there, done that. I went down the neuro-opt path last year with my oldest son. Yeah, didn't even know there was the subspecialist. But we joke that other families go to theme parks and beaches for vacation and we go to specialists and hospitalists. My son was dxed with Adies Pupil ( unequal pupils, autoimmune disorder).

But I have migraines and light is my trigger. Light sensitivity glasses will help you but you may also want to get visors. I have them because light overhead isn't blocked by glasses. You can get cheap pretty durable foam visors at Walmart or most craft stores. They have elastic in the back. I also have dimmers on all the rooms that I spend time in. My concern is with the new law for light bulbs ( which I totally disagree with for many reasons) dimmers won't work. I have heard that they are working on some new bulbs for dimmers but it really concerns me. I live in the sun belt. I have shutters closed, tint on the windows, sunglasses, well you get the idea, I limit light at all times. Even as I sit here at my computer, I have a chair situated with a jacket draped over it ( in June) to block the small amount of indirect sunlight coming in from the small doggie door. In my view, my brain has a limit of so much light it can take in for a day and if it goes over that limit, I am in trouble. Medication can help and I am on it. But I do all I can to limit light and things go much better.

One thing I haven't found is a way to make my computer screen dimmer or less bright. Any suggestions would be great. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome ( dry eyes, dry mouth, and neuro conductivity issues) so I take breaks on the computer because of the screen light.

I hope the glasses help you and you can find a good way to balance this and yet go on and enjoy your life.
