Re: [fast5] Re: Water and hunger

That has happened to some runners. The thing that kills them though isn't the water: the condition is called "hyponatremia" which means "not enough salt". In the old days (when I was a kid), a person was encouraged to eat salty foods on hot days, or take salt tablets, because you lose a lot of salt through sweat. These days a lot of us are paranoid about "too much salt", and forget that "too little salt" is an issue too!  When you drink water, your body pulls electrolytes from your blood to raise the osmotic pressure, since your body can't actually handle "pure water" as it is. If the salt level in your blood drops too much, your heart stops working.

I drink a lot less water than I used to, since I've learned a bit about electrolytes. Actually I don't eat as much salt as I used to either, oddly enough. My electrolyte of choice is a tsp. of vinegar in a glass of water, which I do 3x a day (with a bit of honey in my window, and sometimes with baking soda to make it fizzy).

Anyway, when you drink water it washes salt from your body, and also you can lose a fair amount of B vitamins. Which isn't to say drinking water is bad: you need it. Just be aware of it's effects. In an ideal world it would be balanced, like Gatorade (but not bright blue ... ).

sounds like you found your answer and glad it's working but... please be careful you don't overdo. i never knew you could drink too much water until my aunt died from doing just that. also, a radio show held a contest that had something to do with drinking water and one of the contestants died because of it. i don't know what is too much but i think ppl who drink a lot of water should find out. i drink water all day and that is always in the back of my mind.
