Subject: [fast5] I lost 50 pounds !

Hi Everyone,

I have been a lurker in this group for several months. I joined the group
to get some encouragement from you "Fast-5 folk" who I suspect are on the
right track to weight loss for good health.

I do not specifically follow the "Fast 5" rules but it was the closest thing
out there I could find that compared to what I am using to lose weight. I
live a sedimentary lifestyle (not totally by my choice) so I found it over
the years much easier to gain weight than lose it.

Since January 1st of this year, I have lost over 50 pounds. For someone who
is 45 years old, I feel that is quite the accomplishment without a gym
membership.

I am too embarrassed to say how many pounds I still want to lose to reach my
goal. It was not easy going through life as "the big guy". I don't need to
tell anyone here how society treats the "gravitationally challenged".
Having a wife that can cook up heaven is not a help sometimes. especially
when she is 40 years old (grandmother already) and has a body that most 21
year olds would kill for.

I stopped at my mother's house yesterday. She is 84 years old (widow) and
her health is starting to slip a little and her eyesight is very poor. Ever
since I was a child, she has been the worst critic of my weight. That was a
tough childhood. Anyway, I stood before her and announced that I had lost
50 pounds. The first two words out of her mouth were; "FIVE ZERO???".just
to make sure that I didn't say "fifteen". Those two words came out of her
mouth several times during my visit. After 45 years, I found out what
impresses my mother. She even gave me a new shirt that she had bought for
my older brother. In her way, that was a serious gesture towards a peace
treaty I figure.

Anyway, I'm starting to rant so I'd better get back to the subject.

Be encouraged people! If I can do it, anyone can too. It takes dedication,
diligence and support (if you can find it). Thank you for all your posts
that have helped me to feel not so alone in my struggle. I could write a
book on the psychological damage that society has bestowed upon me because
of my size. But, as you probably all know; to survive, we just bury the
pain and carry on. That's OK though. I have a strong faith in "The Creator"
and I suspect that the "Judgment Day" we've all been warned about will work
out a lot of events that were not totally resolved in out short lives.

Thank you again Fast-5 group!

Fast on people. fast on!

Rob
:-)
