fDeluxe, formerly THE FAMILY - BIG PLANS FOR 2013
HAPPY 2013  FDELUXE Friends and Fans!!
Hey everyone, St Paul Peterson here.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.  It's good and chilly here in Minnesota; a perfect time for me to get on a plane and go to LA.
I did exactly that last week.   Susannah and I got together and set a plan for 2013 for fDeluxe.
We have some great ideas, and that means  NEW PRODUCT!!!!

You may recall that last Sept we toured the east coast with Sheila E, and ended up with a solo gig at the Dakota in Minneapolis.  We recorded this gig, Susannah and I just listened to it, and it is UNBELIEVEABLE!  The band is incredibly tight, the arrangements are great, and we have decided to mix this and put it out SOON!

Be on the lookout for the live record, and possibly some footage of our Paris and Minneapolis gigs.

Some of you may have missed it, but we also put out a NEW REMIX CD.

"Relit"....is a 14 song collection of remixes from our 1st record"Gaslight."  Many remixes were done by the band, their friends, or their fans.  (for track list, scroll down to the end of the email)

Have you heard our cover of Ike and Tina Turners

"A funky night with fDeluxe at the Dakota Sunday was a funky night in the Twin Cities. fDeluxe (formerly the Family) was at the Dakota for some vintage Minneapolis Sound funk. I caught fDeluxe's early set. The Family was a Prince project in 1985 featuring St. Paul Peterson and Susannah Melvoin (Wendy's twin sister and Prince's then-girlfriend) on lead vocals. Peterson, Melvoin and original Family members saxophonist Eric Leeds and drummer Jellybean Johnson decided to reunite last year and make a new album ("Gaslight"). However, Prince owned the name "the Family" so the new project was released under fDeluxe. After gigs in New York and Washington D.C. opening for Sheila E last week, fDeluxe sounded more like a band than a project at the Dakota. Leeds was the star of the 80-minute first set. He's a sax monster, who needs to find more regular gigs here in the Twin Cities, where he lives.. "  — Jon Bream, Mpls Star Tribune
"Its a Family Affair. With Prince's help they created a lost 1980's soul classic; without it, fDeluxe has found their own voice... From the skintight beats of Gaslight's opening tracks, Drummers and Healers, fDeluxe's supremely taut and sensual souls not only intact, it's rejuvinated. The former disciples of the elfin one have returned, 25 years wiser, to make a statement - self produced, self-released and one of the most exciting records I've heard this year."  — Paul Sexton, London Times
"**** 4/5 STARS IN GUITARIST**** Ex Prince Band keeps it in the Family. ....The band The Family have come together under their own new name -fDeluxe- to produce a perfectly distilled dose of funk and modern soul that lights up your brain like a pinball machine from the first beat. "  — Guitarist
"****4/5 STARS IN THE DAILY MIRROR!**** Twenty-six years ago, The Family's self-titled debut was one of the highlights of Prince's extracurricular activity. A split from their royal ruler may have caused a name change, but this display of sophisticated jazz and supple funk, fronted by Susannah Melvoin (and Paul Peterson,) show's they're more than court rejects."  — The Daily Mirror
"Melvoin and Peterson have put the Family back together but with a new moniker, fDeluxe. The new fDeluxe album, "Gaslight" -- which also features original Family members Eric Leeds (who has worked with Prince, Sheila E and others) on saxophone and Jellybean Johnson (who still tours with Morris Day & the Time) on drums and guitar -- is both a continuation of the Family and a journey in new directions. In other words, it's got plenty of sanctified funk, dreamy pop, soulful duets and jazzy saxophone.  — Brooklyn Vegan
