Re: [fast5] Re: Invitation

One hint I learned from the Warrior Diet (which is similar in practice, though not in philosophy!). Eating RAW fruits and vegies really doesn't affect your insulin so much. So if you are "in a group" where eating seems socially mandatory (and you don't want to discuss "religion" :-)  ... eat raw fruits and vegies. There are usually plates of broccoli, celery, etc. at these gigs, and salads. Plates of shrimp even. People may assume you are "on a diet", but usually they are too polite to ask. (depends on your relatives!). It's probably over 5 calories, but it won't upset your system or throw off your weight loss, in my experience. Do try to avoid the "dip" though ... that stuff is bad on several levels, or salads with mayo-looking stuff on them.

Another trick, for social events where "drinking" seems mandatory: tip the bar person well, and have them serve you a series of fizz waters in nice "cocktail" glasses, with a twist of lemon or a few olives or whatever. I actually love fizz water with a twist of lemon anyway, but that makes it look like I'm "drinking". I actually learned this from an old family story. A relative was in a rather high-pressure job, where finding out stuff from the opponent was a good thing to do. At parties, they served LOTS of liquor, esp. when he was host! But he himself didn't drink: he went around with a cocktail glass, always, but it was filled with a "mocktail". It is a very good thing to make the barkeep your friend ... you can just plop down your glass and say "another round! And one for my pal here!" and they'll remember what you are "drinking".

(And if you are into industrial espionage or finding out family secrets, just act a little loopy while you are doing it. It is really amazing how forthcoming people are when they are a few sheets to the wind, and you are not).

Heh, isn't it just? Lately when people ask me what I'm doing that has made me lose so much weight, I often reply with some variation of "Sorry, I don't like to discuss religion".  *chuckle*

I'm going to a family event in a few days, and I am absolutely terrified that it won't be easy to slip under their radar and keep eating the way that I am happiest with.  *cross fingers*
