Re: [epilepsy] medicine levels question

Pierce,
Ask your Dr for a copy of your blood test. There it will tell you what the safe levels are.
If you are below the lowest number you probably need a bit more or another med.
If you are high you are getting too much and can become toxic. I had been taking 4
Dilantin a day but it was too much so my Dr. changed it to taking 3 Mon, Wed and Fri
and 4 the other day. I also take 4- 30 mg Phenabarb a day. I have been on this for over
20 years.

But just because these meds work for me doesn't mean they will work for anybody else.
Each person has to find the med and the strength that works for them. I don't like to be
close to the edge of the level. If it is low there is a more chance of a sz.

I haven't had a sz for 3 years and before that it was 4 years.

Millie

Subject: [epilepsy] medicine levels question

What exactly does medicine levels mean? If a dose works then why bother changing because of what a blood test says the medicine levels are?

I had a blood test last week and today came home to find a message from my doctor's office saying to call them. The dose I take now is fine. Is there a reason to change it if the blood test says I have too much or little in my system?
