Lastnight I made a mistake in saying that therapeutic levels are measured by grams per once of blood. Its grams per liter of blood. Dialantin therapeutic is 10-20 gms. per liter of blood. Toxic is above 20. Maybe it
was caused by having a 20 oz. bottle of coke, instead of the better caffeine Free coke.

It looks as if all medicines have their own separate levels,you weight doesn't seem to make a difference it's measured in mgs. per ounce of blood,if the person weighs 20-200 lbs, the of amount medicine taken per dose is lower for 20 pounders then 200's. But it still needs to be measured at gram per once of blood the amount per ounce of blood. So if a 200 pounder had ten times the blood in their body, that person might need to take ten times the AED.

Is each medicine level different or your size isn't taken into account is it? I have never asked my Dr. these
questions. All I know is when want any of my other supplements taken as well she will put on my sheet which
remains now permanent at the hospital and I just go and get it done.
What I can't figure is, all levels can be right on or never better as she puts it some times and yet I can be
having little breakthroughs between each time?
Usually she will ask me though if had a seizure and what was happening around the time that could of triggered
it. If can give her a good honest trigger, then I guess it had nothing to do with the blood levels.

Well I don't know what u take but, when I was on dilantin they did reagular tests but, now I've been on
lamictal for the last yr and now it has been almost a yr since my last 1. I gradually took myself off dilantin
explainin to my doc that i was tired of the effects to my teeth. I'd never had cavities till about 2 yrs after
starting on dilantin. Anyways I found that with lamictal that i have missed a few doses and i havent had ne
either. With dilantin if I fell 2 days within my Medication limit I would usually have a seizure within 20
hours or so. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I take Dilantin and I had my Dilantin levels checked every few months when I first started to take it. I
haven't had the levels checked in about a year now. I was told that there is a therapeutic level that is
between 10-20. Too high of a level is dangerous and too low of a level may not prevent seizures. They may need
to check liver enzymes and other functions also, as some meds can cause problems and/or interfere with other
meds. Take care.

I had a blood test last week and today came home to find a message from my doctor's office saying to call
them. The dose I take now is fine. Is there a reason to change it if the blood test says I have too much or
little in my system?
