[epilepsy] Re: When should the Trileptal start to work?

Hi Melody's Mom,

If its Trileptal or any other medication or medications as far as epilepsy goes, there is no actual dosage to do the job. When it will actually work, there is no actual amount or time or particular dosage. Nobody's body is the same. What works for one person doesn't mean it will work for the next person.

Your daughter like anybody else will begin at a low dosage and in time the dosage is increased. If seizure stop, then that might be a good dosage to stay on. If seizure decreased, maybe upping the dosage might help? If there is no change, maybe upping the dosage might help. The Dr. might increase the dosage then giving it time for the body to get used to it as well as how its affecting the person as far as alertness, memory ect... In short, how the side effects are affecting the person. You can always keep increasing the dose again to see how seizures are affecting seizures as well as how the side effects affect the person. Everybody's body can only deal with so much before a person feels toxic or simply to high to deal with because of side effects (read the label for side effects).

Then if there is a 2nd medication, how might that medications dosage might help changing it up or down. Life with epilepsy picking what medications might work very often is like throwing a dart at a dartboard in choosing which meds. might work. Its very fustrating if they don't stop the seizures. I was one of the 25% of people with epilepsy who's seizures was never able to be stopped trying so many different meds over my 34 years of epilepsy.

Hopefully, in time, your daughter will be one of the 75% of people with epilepsy who's seizures in time can become under control with the help of meds. Keep us informed in how its going! Take care, keep a smile on your face!

She did this weird jerking/twitching in her whole body last night in her sleep ..She hasnt done it this afternoon during her nap.But it scared me yet i dont want to be one of them moms that run to the E.R. just becuase my baby has Seizures and she moves the wrong way. She has Horriable night terrors. So that might have been it.
