Hello,
My name is Robert McMahan. I was diagnosed with epilepsy in the fourth grade. That would be about 43 years ago. I'm currently 52 years old. The Drs have a theory that it may be caused by being hit on the head with a golf club (accident playing with sister), but they really don't know. The golf club incident was a few years prior to my first seizure. I have generalized Tonic/Clonic seizures (Grand Mal) that are for the most part under control. I have had 1 break through seizure in the last 25 years. Dr said it was from missing medication. This is a bit of a jump to a conclusion as the seizure was so severe that I lost most of my memory for prior to the seizure. I have some vague recollection of some things at work, but nothing else. I don't remember taking my meds, but I also don't remember anything else. I started using a plastic pill case to be sure what I have taken and when.
My sister also has Temporal Lobe Seizures just recently diagnosed (Within the last 5-7 years). Again, no real diagnosis of why, they just started out of the blue. She is controlled at this point, but the side effects of the medication are frustrating her. She feels that the side effects are worse than the seizures.
I don't think they are trying to hide anything from us, they are more concerned about stopping the seizures.
Hope this helps,
Robert McMahan

Subject: [epilepsy] Why I have Epilepsy?
Hi all, first what is Epilepsy .... Epilepsy is the catch all word given to anyone who has more than 2 seizures within a 12 month period for ANY reason. Maybe a result of head injury, surgery, high fever, vaccines, genetic conditions, etc and for some there is reportedly no known reason. But I don't believe that.
Let's share why we have Epi or our family member that brings us here, how often they occur, are they controlled and how long you have had them.
