Hi, all. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 4 years old. I've had it for 39 years now (so you can guess how old I am). Nobody knows how it started. Mom has a theory that it was because she was in labor for 27 hours with me. I don't know if that was the case, though. Even if it was, why would it take so long to manifest itself?
Anyway, my seizures are under control with medication. I haven't had one in almost a year. I've also figured out one of my triggers: dehydration. I was mowing the ditch in my front yard a few years ago, and I started seeing spots in front of my eyes. So I sat down in the ditch and had a seizure. That, along with a couple of times during a martial arts class, helped me figure it out. Now I'm careful to make sure I have enough water and take breaks if I'm doing a lot of work.
