Hi Dale,

Yes, ep meds can cause depression-a few years ago most of them had a black box warning put on them.  The purpose of anti-epilepsy drugs is to calm the nervous system. ..which will also cause depression.  Seizures and depression go hand and hand, even before diagnosis. 
It is better to go on an anti-depressant...I'm on one that's a low dose.  I can definitely tell the difference when I don't take it.
