[epilepsy] Re: Intro.

Hi Sophia,
Sorry to hear about the dx. I started have seizures when I was 10, but the doctor dismissed it as "fainting spells"- like its the 1800s and besides shouldn't a doctor be concerned a ten year old is having "fainting spells?"
I found certain medicines make me really sick- watch out for major mood swings, also stiffness is muscles - especially the neck. There are a lot of different medicines, so hopefully she can find one that works well for her. Sometimes you just have to get used to one.
I was depressed when I was diagnosed too, the doctor said I couldn't drive, bike or swim or even take baths. After 12 months I could drive again. I can bike and swim as long as it is in a pool or I am accompanied. After you've had a few seizures, you can tell when you're going to get one and that gives you time to prepare- like get off your bike.
Let her know, most epileptics live normal lives. I drive, I work full time, I swim, bike and rock climb. My close friends know I have epilepsy, but most people do not. I do wear a medical alert bracelet, I found some cute looking ones on etsy.com. I take 2 pills a day and haven't had a seizure in years.

Halley is in that depressed stage at the moment, why me?, and my life is over, and have to keep on top of her to take the medication.
