I live in South East New Mexico. I joined this group when I heard of an epilepsy support group that was starting in my town and I realized there was more out there than just those immediatly around me.
I have tonic-clonics, but I've been seizure free for 14 months. I'm on both topamax and lamictal. I'm working with my neurologist on weaning off the topamax as some of its side effects are affecting my work.
I wanted to join this group to meet others and perhaps share stories and see maybe what it might take to get our small support group in the middle of nowhere from shriveling up and dying.

Millie -
Thanks.
I work in pharmaceutical marketing. We have a nurse assistant sitter who
comes, but only if I'm not home. It's too costly to pay for that if I want
to run errands or something

Ken,
I too, am appalled that you are not given
more attention for your wife -- especially when
her szs last for hours.
After I have a complex sz -- I too am fuzzy. My
girls say that my brain is scrambled for a couple
days. But I have one only every 4 years or so.
Having them constantly like she does-- to me
seems like she should be having more care by her
Drs.==especially if she is changing meds.
Do take care of yourself. That has got to be stressful
for both of you. What kind of work do you do?
Do you have a nurse or home health aid come in to help?

[epilepsy] Re: Hello
Hi LaGringa,
How old are you, if I may ask? My daughter has JME with tonic clinics and myoclonics but has also been seizure free for over a year with depakote and generic topamax. She's currently 22.

HI Jamie,
Yup, Megan is off for the summer and is working at our family's golf course 30-35 hours a week. She is being trained for the desk position and already works in the kitchen and as a beverage server. She really enjoys people, so this is a great kind of job for her. She's still enjoying driving her car, something she had to wait for for 5 years while we struggled to get her seizures back under control. Now it has been over a year since her last seizure, and I am so happy for her. I felt bad when they told me that people rarely outgrow JME, but Megan has such strength, courage and pride that she just keeps on doing what she wants to do.
Hugs to little Megan!

[Healthy_Recipes_For_Diabetic_Friends] Chocolate Berry Cups - 16g Carbs, 3g Fiber
Chocolate Berry Cups - 16g Carbs, 3g Fiber
From: The South Beach Diet (Phase 2)
Fruit and chocolate lovers will appreciate this tasty treat. The cups
can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days,
making this an easy holiday or party dessert.
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, and/or sliced strawberries)
1 Tbsp granular sugar substitute
2 (13" by 18") sheets frozen whole-wheat phyllo dough, thawed
1 1/2 Tbsp trans-fat-free margarine, melted
1 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup part-skim ricotta or South Beach Ricotta Creme
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine berries with sugar substitute.
Spread 1 phyllo sheet out on a clean work surface. Lightly brush with
margarine. Lay second sheet on top of first; brush with margarine.
Fold sheets in half widthwise. Brush top side with more margarine.
Cut dough in half lengthwise, then again widthwise to create 4 equal
pieces. Carefully fit each piece into a nonstick muffin pan to create
a cup. Bake the cups until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Set aside
to cool.
When you are ready to assemble cups, place chocolate in a small
microwave-safe glass bowl. Heat, unsealed, in the microwave on low
power at 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until
completely melted, about 1 minute.
Fill each phyllo cup with 1 tablespoon ricotta and 1/4 cup berries.
Carefully remove bowl from microwave and, with a spoon, drizzle
melted chocolate over berries.
