Viral Encephalitis infects the spinal column. As you can below it leads to a
brain infection which swells the brain causing seizures. I also have scars
on my brain due to the fever.
So yes infections and virus can lead to the brain if the spinal column is
infected and that will cause epilepsy.

Viral encephalitis can be due either to the direct effects of an acute
infection, or as one of the sequelae of a latent infection.

rare cases of patients also suffering from stiffness of the limbs, slowness
in movement and clumsiness depending on which specific part of the brain is
involved. The symptoms of encephalitis are caused by the brain's defense
mechanisms activating to get rid of the infection. Other symptoms can
include drowsiness and coughing.

Subject: [epilepsy] epilepsy and viruses
Jewl,
I don't see how someone could develop epilepsy after catching a virus. What
exactly happened in order for that to occur?
