Re: [epilepsy] epilepsy and viruses

He is 5.  His first seizures was at age 3 1/2.  In less than 6 mos, it rapidly progressed to where he was having seizures all the time.  There's times they would come every sec.  The story is sssssooooooo long and heartbreaking.  So, to save you the details, a year later is when they said it was LGS.  Now, he's homebound and cannot go outside in the sun.  He is extremely sensitive to bright light, noise, things that are too busy, almost everything.  He expereinces OCD issues, and has recently been going through a snapping period.  This is so unlike my son, because he is the sweetest boy in the whole wide world and gives tons of hugs and kisses.  He used to be so smart, but now is only confident w/ colors, a few letters and numbers, and most shapes.  Will stop here for now.  Laura

I am wondering the same thing about my little boy! I hope they do find it, if it is out there. Every time we switch meds, we get a little relief.. Then, the saga starts all over again. Though we are never seizure-free, we sometimes do get a break in not having them all day long. Aeidan's dx is Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. Is there anyone else out there experiencing problems from this disorder? He is also getting tendencies from many other neurological disorders, which is really scares me. Laura

hmm..epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that is characterized by current unprovoked seizures.

seizures happen because of convulsion. convulsion occurs because of too much production of aspartate in the brain. the brain produces too much aspartate because it is not functioning well or it is damaged.

the question is what causes the damage of the brain cells. actually it is not the germs or the viruses. It is free radicals or toxic chemicals inside our body.

epilepsy is currable...

Jewl,
I don't see how someone could develop epilepsy after catching a virus. What exactly happened in order for that to occur?
