I don't know that IF increases detox, nor do I agree that detox is the main benefit of fasting.
For me to come to this conclusion, I'd have to know what toxin was decreased from before IF to after IF, and what these levels were. I've seen no such data on any toxin. The "detox" feeling that is associated with fasting is just as likely, if not more likely, to be an alteration (perhaps we could call it improvement or even normalization) of the complex interactions of the hormone and nerve signals of the gut, brain and the rest of the body.
I view any claim of "detox" with great skepticism. I think there may be something to what Rick posted earlier about fat-soluble chemicals coming out with long-stored fat, as I've heard it before with other methods of weight loss. As far as I know, no one has confirmed it or even attempted to confirm it. At least in that realm, we're talking about a specific chemical (THC) and a credible way to detect it (the psychoactive effect.)
If a claim of detox is made with no indication of what toxin is removed, how much is removed, and what the levels were before and after the treatment, then you're looking at non-science, which is most likely to be plain ol' marketing of snake oil.
Even matters like "cleanses" make little sense to me. First, I don't think people understand how really clean their bodies keep their insides. Yeah, there's poop in the bowel, but it's only in the last part of the intestine, and doesn't stay in one place for long. The rest of the gut is squeaky clean and there aren't side alleys or pouches (normally) where stuff can linger, except the appendix which doesn't usually trap stuff and there's no question when it does. Intestines not like house plumbing where stuff gets grody, because the gut continually replaces its lining and it actively pushes stuff along using waves of constriction called peristalsis. It's fascinating to watch. If the pouches do exist, as in diverticulosis, then no amount of "cleansing" is going to get rid of them or clean them.
Another element to consider in evaluating detox claims is how did your body get "toxed" in the first place? Unless you can avoid the environment that caused the toxin exposure in the first place, you would have to assume you're going to replace whatever toxins you get rid of by the continued exposure.
Our kidneys and liver are fabulous organs. The kidneys work by getting rid of everything in the blood but red blood cells and large protein molecules, then pull back only the good stuff. That means just about anything that's not supposed to be in the blood gets excreted by the kidneys. Great detox with no pills or supplements. Both the kidneys and liver can be overwhelmed by taking too much of something poisonous (like Hydroxycut apparently is, according to the FDA's withdrawal order). They can best be "detoxed" simply by avoiding those places you think are most likely to harbor toxins -- that is, cleaning up your personal environment. Wash your fruits and veggies. Avoid foods with added preservatives by eating fresh foods. Grow your own if you can.
Since allergy is associated with inflammation, and inflammation has been shown to be reduced with CR/IF, it is possible that CR/IF could reduce allergic symptoms. Anecdotal reports from Fast-5ers suggest this does occur, at least in some people, so you may see it happen too.

> My question... I know IF increases detox... the main benefit of fasting... but does this include detox of the liver? Would simply being on a Fast-5 programme over time eventually bring about a cleaner and cleaner liver... makes sense to me that it would... or would a special programme have to be added? I keep reading that a cleaned liver ameliorates food allergies progressively more and more with each clean out. I want to reverse a dairy allergy if at all possible. It is quite recent.
