Hi. In regards to medications, I am allergic to any synthetic chemical. The only time I have been able to do drugs is when they are made in a compounding pharmacy without additives and allergens, like the dyes, corn, etc. and then only a couple of times can I still use them, because they must be from natural sources. For instance, I have taken cortisone made from wild yam, and I tolerated it moderately well.
With herbs, I also rotate what I use for the most effective results. As with food, it is important to rotate herbs if you are prone to allergies so you don't develope an intolerance to them. I also rotate supplements or take breaks from them. I think anything I take day in and day out starts to irritate my brain and nervous system - like it has had enough, and needs a break.
I am allergic to synthetic perfumes, because there are some really crazy ingredients in these things. There is lots of information on the web about synthetic fragrances and how they are toxins to the brain, and can be found in soaps, cleaners, air freshners, personal products, etc. I can use certain essential oils, since these are derived from the plants and flowers themselves, with no chemical extraction or additives. I have read that Ylang Ylang essential oil helps some with seizures, to prevent or downgrade one at the beginning. I have been experimenting with this myself. It is very calming, and I apply it sometimes if I am going out into a situation where I might be overstimulated and end up with a seizure.
I also wear ear plugs most of the time in public, which helps me from getting triggered into a seizure. It's interesting when you can't take the drugs, what other things you start finding out can help you. I am very tuned in to my environment and diet and how basic things affect my ability to cope and be seizure free.
Love,
jnanda
