Kelly,
How did a complex partial affect you?
When I have a complex partial -- my girls
say that my brain is scrambled for a couple
days. I don't pass out and I am not aware
that I am not acting as usual unless someone
tells me. Then like you switch on or off a light --
my brain clears and I am more like my usual self.
Not acting as usual -- means I act like I don't
hear you talking, I don't smile, I don't ask
questions and at the end I am not talking.
No one has ever told me that I have a complex
sz -- I just went by what I read about it and
that seems to be the closest to what I experience.
I haven't one for over 4 years-- which suits me fine.
I sold my car so I am not driving anymore.

Subject: [epilepsy] going off trileptal
I had my appt yesterday with my epileptologist. We discussed both going
of my trileptal and driving. She asked me "what do you want to do more,
go off the med or drive?" Hard choice!! I told her "I know you are
going to tell me if I try to go off trileptal I will have to put off
driving until we know what will happen". She said "that's right". I
decided to go off the trileptal first. I have to know if it is the meds
that are keeping me seizure free. It will take 5 weeks to titrate off
of it, then she said I need wait 8 weeks after that to drive if I have
no seizures. 3 months. I can live with that. My husband and I make
our life work, and though driving will give me some freedom, it isn't
urgent that I be able to so. She did tell me "with you we will knwo
fairly quickly if going off the meds is going to make a difference". I
know why--I was having so many seizures a day before surgery, that if I
am going to still have one it won't take long before it happens. I
actually figured out that the year before surgery I had somewhere near
2000 seizures. The year before I was finally diagnosed properly I had
somewhere around 3500-4000. It was aweful!!! The thought that I can
say I am seizure free off meds is almost like a dream!
I have to try it. Also, we know what works, so we won't have to play
the med game again if I have a seizure, I can go back on what I am on
now. That gives me the security to know it is ok to try this. I could
choose to stay on it, and drive, but how much nicer will it be if I can
be off of it and drive. Either way, I will get to drive at some point,
and waiting 3 more months to do it to try going off my meds is worth it
to me.
