Robert,
I live in California, and we have the same rule as you do in Texas. No seizures for 6 months. And I have had wonderful success with my medication. Unfortunately, I have more than one type of Epilepsy. I started out with Petite-Mal Seizures, diagnosed at 14, I averaged a 5 second seizure perhaps 12-20 times per day. When I was 16, I had my first Abnormal Petite-Mal Seizure, but I continued to have the regular Petite-Mal Seizures as well. As the years went by, I would have a combination of Petite-Mal and Abnormal Petite-Mal Seizures. But it wasn't until I had my first Grand-Mal Seizure (in my early 30's) that I really buckled down on taking my medication regularly, and keeping a seizure journal. At this point (age 37), that I can go more than 6 months without a Grand-Mal Seizure. In fact I'm coming up on one year with a Grand-Mal soon! But I still can't seem to get out of the "3-6 weeks range" with my Petite-Mal and Abnormal Petite-Mal Seizures. Hence my problem.

I hope that clarifies THAT part of the puzzle.
Sincerely,
Violin Goddess

PS, Just for those of you playing the home game, The medication I take is Depakote. It has served me well over the years. It's been a slow process, but my seizure rate has gone down consistently over time. Part of me wonders if I just have to wait longer for it to overcome that 6 month point.
