FWD: [epilepsy] How to get around town without a drivers license!!??

Hi I'm Nelson" from Miami-Florida.

It appears: that transportation for disabled, is not easy.
I actually live away from the main metropolitan heart of the city; where metro-rail and metro-movers transit more, thou their is a disabled taxi-service for those who qualify.
blind" wheel-chair handicap, epilepsy.
a door-to-door service: to a medical doctor, your work or even if you are to visit a friend or family - for a fee either way, 7-days a week.
It operates from: eary-as 5:30AM - to - 2:00AM.
you can reserve the day before: or up to 7-day's in advance: Note: of coarse when traffic is heavy in the morning-hours - or early mid late-afternoon, you will encounter being late to get picked-up - or late to arrive, where you are going.
"if travelling out-of-boundary taxi range: the other county disabled taxi service will pick you up; at the drop off county-line.
"not so good service when going across different county's: "you might have to wait: extra time.
yes: it's always best to just have friends that might help with a transit once every so often, If you wish to bring along a friend for the ride: you must let-them know in advance; when reserving the trip.
seldom: you can also use the service for grocery's, only very-little bags you can carry.
If you have to really depend of it allot: it can be a costly expensive month, round-trip is: $7
"and yes: being disabled - you have reduced metro transit, for busses: metro-rail, metro-mover - but not this taxi service: for the disabled.

Nelson.

Hi,

I live in a small town outside of Boston. There's a bus system, but it's limited and doesn't run on Sundays.
To get to work, I have to take a cab to the commuter rail, then the subway, and walk. At least coming home, the paratransit system picks me up.
But I do have to rely on friends...moving closer to my job just means higher rent, since Boston has great transportation. So I feel your pain!

Thanks Everyone so much for responding so much to the post!!!!

But I have a few aspects of MY circumstance that makes the Metro, and Subways, and the like not an option for me. I live in a tiny community in the Redwoods on the CA coast. The only "public transit" they offer are city buses, that go by every hour (in one direction) and stop at 6pm. And the Intra-city but that comes by more often, and goes through the little towns on the coast. Around 100 miles of coastline (it takes 45 minutes to get from my house to the only community college in the county!) There are only 27,000 people who live in my town, and it's the largest in the county, and the county seat!!

You see my restrictions???

So any of you who live in tinyier communities could weigh in, that would be great. Plus anyone who has ideas that would still work in a small community like this, please by all means!!!!

Sincerely,
Violin Goddess
