I don't really understand why cars are not an option for people with Epilepsy. I think, if you follow the laws/rules that cars are just as much an option for people with epilepsy as any other person. In Texas, you must go 6 months without a seizure, and get a letter from your doctor to get your license reinstated. I know in some states it can be a year or more. As I meet the criteria for my state, I continue to drive like a 'normal' person. My epilepsy is controlled through medication, and I don't see that I should give up this privilege, (I do mean privilege, not right) Now, on the other hand if you mean uncontrolled epilepsy, I do understand your statement. I would not consider driving with uncontrolled epilepsy. In that case, any of the listed options would be viable if you can use them. (After a seizure, I contacted the local metro about their shuttle and was told and I quote "If you can get your ass on the bus then you do not qualify for this service". ) You would have to make plans around the particular method of transport you choose taking into account time, etc. But if you are controlled on medication, find out what the laws are in your state, follow them, and don't give up driving. The more people who give up this privilege just gives the people who want to take it away from us more ammunition.

For what feels like forever, I've been trying to find a way to acquire/create/find some assemblence of INDEPENDENT TRANSPORTATION for people like us. A way that won't have to depend on undependable buses, burdened friends and family, expensive taxi service & and complicated interconnected public transportation! After years of search I still have come up with nothing more than waiting for the "Google Car" to become available to the public. (you know, the one that has been proven to drive a blind man around San Francisco without a problem!
So I'm sending out this email to find out what other people with epilepsy use for their transportation needs when trying to get to work on time, meet a friend for a movie, go camping, visit family in another part of the state, travel out of state, etc. You know, just get around like normal people do. But they've taken for granted their cars. The one thing that separates them from us. Our ability to have independant means of transportation!!
I've also attached a poll to this post, please feel free to answer both the post and the poll.
Thank you!
Desperately Yours,
Violin Goddess
