Lawyers who are approved byt he SS administration as SS lawyers are
the only ones allowed to go before the judge with youa t the hearing.
Also, thier fee is predetermined, and is taken directly out of your lump
sum and given to them. You should NEVER have to pay anything out of
pocket for a SS lawyer. If yu don't win your case you pay nothing, that
is the agreement they have with the SS administration to be allowed to
do SS cases. Also, they cannot turn you down for representation.
You are right, in that often the ones who advertise are so inundated
with cases that they don't give you the fair attention you deserve. I
used the firm recommended to me by my long term disability company, as
they are only going to recommend the best since they have a stake in the
outcome. Also, the company worked in every state and had specialists
for every part and every stage, including a post award department to
help you figure out all the details after it was over.
