Actually, it's homogenization, not pasteurization, that keeps it from separating. My dogs also love peanut butter. In fact hiding a pill in a spoonful is the only way I can get my girl to take her Rimadyl.

Peanut butter that has the oil on top is the purest of peanut butter. It is not pasteurized so the peanut oil will separate. I grew up with this type. We always stored it upside down which made it easier to stir the oil back in. We also mixed it with rendered pork lard and bird seed for cheap bird feeders. Our feathered friends loved it. It was our favorite also, it sticks to the roof of your mouth. Our dog loved it also, funny to watch.
