Sounds like you are having a great time with your plants. I would not recommend a self or bottom watering container for the aloes. They , like most succulents are subject to root rot with a constantly moist soil condition. You are taking care of them correctly now, and they are responding with exuberance. No need to change a thing.
On the fast 5 note, I have been weening down to one cup of coffee in the morning, and today brought a miscellany bag of herb teas to work with me. A solo 8 hour tea party....
