Re: [epilepsy] Genetic drug question

I know when my Neuro wanted to give me more carbamazepine I happened to ask him (more out of curiosity and to
get his opinion) why not just switch to tegretol. His reply...no..it doesn't matter and would have no
different effect. BUT that is the Tegretol line, and have been on the generic one for centuries so could have
been his reasoning too.
As for other drugs it is not just a matter of the drug itself but how your body takes it. Are you super
sensitive to switch overs. Ask your doctor as he may have to adjust the mg you take.

From what I have found many generic drugs can be different than the lable. It just depends on the drug. It is
probably a good idea no matter what anyone suggests to ask a pharmacist before making a final decision too.

They have to go through much more training and continuing education than doctors and may have access to recent
documents and studies that haven't been widely posted yet.

Take care,

Christine

I take regular Lamictal and because of the monthly cost, I was
wondering how you might have done if you switched to the genetic
of this drug. I know a lot of doctors do not recommend this change
especially since I've been on this for ages. I almost think we
should all have stock in the drug market! Next July will be my
50th year of taking many different drugs for epilepsy. About 12
years ago, I had left temporal surgery, and it stopped all seizures
during the day, however I get them when asleep and I am still on
the drugs. If by chance you made the change to genetic of your
prescription, let me know how it goes. Thanks for your time.
