RE: [epilepsy] having to vent

Hi

No I posted to this group as I know you guys will understand the epilepsy or encephalitis side of it, I posted a general message. No I am happy using the keyboard so why other people have to criticise me I don't know.

Regards

Adrien

Adrian, I

would love to help you if I knew anything about

the touch screen. But I don't. I have seen a man who was

blind use his keyboard and was very impressed. Hope

some one can help you. I have never read that you asked for

help on the screen before – so maybe I am not getting all

the letters.

Millie

Subject: [epilepsy] having to vent

Hi

I am getting quite frustrated and annoyed, it takes a lot to
make me angry, I hope you don't mind my venting on here? I
sent an e-mail asking for something specific on one of the
groups earlier and I get the impression that everyone who
uses a touch screen thinks everyone else should be doing it
too no questions and regardless of their disabilities or
capabilities or limitations. I asked for the voice over
hotkey combination keys, someone sent me the keys for the
function keys, not quite what I was asking for. I had a
serious brain injury 40 years ago nad it makes it difficult
for me to learn things, braille is a good example, I can
read it but am very slow, I can try and use the touch screen
on my ipad but my hands are not steady enough to be able to
find my way around the screen without turning on several
apps and making a real hash of things. I find the touch
screen too sensitive for me to use. I have had far more luck
in using the keyboard because I can find things far more
easily. I think unless you understand someone's disabilities
and know how it affects people, it is very hard to
understand. I am learning french and I can listen to
something and not absorb it for several weeks, my french
teacher can tell me something one minute and I have
forgotten it a few minutes later, I have to keep repeating
it to get it to register. My concentration level goes after
a few minutes, perhaps twenty minutes. I know this is
nothing to do with why I am writing but it just gives you an
idea. With the touch screen I will learn it if I can but it
will take me time. For the time being I am having to make do
with the keyboard. I could have given up more or less
straight away and almost did as you all know but have found
a way for me to use the ipad even if it is with a keyboard,
I get the impression I am being patronised or something like
that when I ask for the voice over hotkeys, it is just an
impression I get. Only someone who has had encephalitis will
understand how it affects another, now I am being
patronising but don't mean to be. I am just so frustrated
that I cannot explain to everyone why I am having difficulty
in learning something. I hope you don't mind my venting on
here.

Regards

Adrien
