Personally speaking, I think it may be the Andy Allo influence that has him wanna go natural. P has been a self professed JW since 2001 and it's 11yrs later. When the Chicago shows commence we'll see what's up with his hair and if his hair is still natural ( like on The View ) or if he straightens it like we're all use to.
I didn't want to take a racial approach to the hair but, personally speaking, I would think that people of Caucasian decent may not like the afro that P is sporting. Members of prince.org are going WILD over the hair change. A LOT of them HATE it ... LoL Perhaps he's getting too old to continue processing his hair. Perhaps process hair now conflicts w/a spiritual belief. Using a straightening comb can be too time consuming. Its clear that he doesn't want a traditional low hair cut. So it seems the fro was the logical next step in his evolution of hair styles. I like it. How can someone who happens to be of Black ethnicity look too Black?
