Subject: [The P.M.M.] PRINCE DOES READ REVIEWS..
PRINCE DOES READ THE REVIEWS AND ARTICLES ABOUT HIM. HE KNOW'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT LAST NIGHT.
Long ago I was interviewed for the upcoming Musicology tour before the Minnesota shows. The article is a bit archived nowadays, but if you want to make sure I am telling the story correct you can dig. (
St. Paul Pioneer Press (MN) - June 16, 2004 - A1 Main'IT'S FUNKY, IT'S FRESH' HARDCORE PRINCE FANS FLOCKING TO CONCERTS Chad Hatfield of Shakopee owns every record Prince ever made and has watched him perform more than 115 times at concerts and Paisley Park parties. The 31-year-old is planning on going to all three Prince concerts at St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center, starting tonight and ending Friday. Next weekend, he'll road trip to Chicago to see three out of five Prince shows. After years of obscurity, Prince has made his way back into the national spotlight... ) The rest of the story now costs money to read (go figure).
Anyway, I don't think anyone should be suprised at how the show went down Monday night. Prince has been and always will be about himself. I will admit for a brief time in 2004 he was helping us true fans with GREAT seats. I look back on that and figure it was all to promote NPGMC in the long run. Remember him always mentioning us folks in the good seats and how they should sign up if they wanted to sit where we were? I love this mans music for the most part. I do not drink the purple kool-aid and believe everything he has done over the years is always grand. This brings me back to 2004. I ended up going to 4 of the concerts in Chicago @ Allstate arena. I had great seats (thanks to him and the NPGMC). I was in the front row and was called up onstage with 1 other guy and a bunch of women for one of the songs. Those that were there may remember he was handing out pizza. He handed out the slices to most of the people and handed me the empty box and said " you ain from Chicago anyway" and laughed. I have no offense to that. I was happy to be onstage and have great seats. My point being that HE HAD TO HAVE READ THE ARTICLE I WAS IN and was not pleased with what I said. There is no way he could have known it was me. There was my picture on the front page of the Pioneer Press and me saying "sometimes I think he mails it in" so to speak.
My long winded diatribe is this: I hope the concerts in Chicago get better quick. By the time this is even posted I am sure night 2 will be a wrap. I do get dumbfounded when some folks on the forums or message boards act as though he is such a sweetheart. He is not. His whole career he has mainly acted like his audience is below him. It must be the lighting people's fault, it must be the sound guys, it must be the arena. NO, it is an arrogant musician whom most of us fawn over to see him live. Night 1 of the Musicology shows in St Paul he had the place locked up because his soundcheck didn't go right. He had 18,000 people waiting at the doors. He has done this countless times in different arenas I have seen him at. I don't blame him for the Paisley Park shows, we know what we are getting into. I remember during the Rainbow Children shows (2) in St Paul, he cut the 2nd show short by an hour because he was pissed the place was half empty. Well promote something Prince. This rant could go on and on...
I read all the reviews all over everywhere today and was very glad I did not spend $2500 to get to Chicago, hotel, airfare & tickets and everything else to see the mess I have heard about today. Remember when he wanted his "true" fams up close? Now it will cost you $750.00 a seat to be that "true fam".. Don't even get me started on the lotusflow3r waste of money...
Sorry, Had to get it out of my system. He does not care about his fans, fams or whatever bs he is calling it these days.
PS: Yes I will be buying the VIP tickets if he ever comes back to Minnesota. I told you I am a sucker...
