Subject: [fast5] I continue to realize the benefits...

The benefits of this lifestyle for me continue to abound and unlike the other 20 ways I have lost weight in the past, I am not even imagining the day when I get to my goal and then quit the 'diet'. This is my DIET, not a transitory state to lose some weight, and I am overjoyed to think that I didn't imagine that would be my thought pattern at all when I first tried this.

Of late I just realized that my skin is improving tremendously. I eat fewer calories everyday now despite the days that I allow myself chocolate or ice cream. In fact, I eat some sort of sweet just about every single day. Sometimes it's a homemade smoothie that are huge in our house, and it is as satisfying as a big bowl of sherbet. I sleep better, deeper, despite the fact that I sleep fewer hours than the average person. (that sleep study recently discussed is not my reality) I am thinking more clearly. My body weight is being distributed differently, can't completely explain that but it's like I am wearing a size I wore in the past but I am at a heavier weight than when I wore that size. The inflammation in my foot continues to decrease; I can tell because of shoes that didn't fit my right foot properly and now do. On the days when I ''cheat'' out of my window, like yesterday at a huge wedding, I find it easy as pie the next day to go back to my normal routine. I have not gained weight at all during these days, and my stomach has shrunk so small that if I do really overeat on my cheat day, I have the sickening but somewhat delightful side-effect of feeling like an overfed suckling piggy! I just can't hold too much food anymore and so I am still eating less on that day of cheating anyway.

When I wake in the morning, I don't even consider or think of food I realized recently. I may cook for my kids some days, and I definitely spend a lot of time in my kitchen, it is a hub in our house, and I do a lot of homeschool lessons with my kids in here at the table, but fasting has remarkably given me a dependable handle on my eating in a way that reducing calories, eating low carb, etc, never did in the past. These are just a few that come into my head quickly. Here's another, I have a reason now to hold off and wait a couple more hours before eating when I feel tempted. My mind thinks, "I've gone 16 hrs, 17 hrs already is this (fill in the blanks)doughnut, fruit salad, burger, worth losing the effect on non-insulin release, the other great gains I've made so far all these hours? I usually answer myself back, nope, and that if I wait longer, I can have that thing plus more. That's another flukey benefit, I suppose, I talk more to myself, but now I'm actually listening to my own advice!

Some may say that I am coming up with reasons to psych myself up so that I don't quit. Whatever. It's been enough time now that I can reasonably evaluate these more esoteric types of benefits, and they are a super side effect that I never even considered when deciding to give fasting a try. In fact, when I learned of this lifestyle, I didn't consider at all that I would decide to live this way permanently. I was seriously just happy with the weight loss part of it! I knew logically that my blood pressure would improve, theoretically, my arthritis issues would get better, but I am happily taking all these other benefits with glee. Having to toss all my old larger underwear for new a new smaller size last week was kind of cool, too.
