Hi Doris,
Megan had terrible problems with generic lamictal. It apparently breaks down more quickly than the brand name drug. As a result, she would have symptoms of overdose in the morning (dizziness, vision problems, headaches) and would often have seizures before it was even time for her next dose. She also had terrible hives from it, but that is a potential side effect for lamictal, too. She just didn't have that problem with lamictal. We got her off of the generic as quickly as possible, but it was a terrible experience for her.
As other people mentioned, you may have a different response than Megan did. The only way to know for certain how well the generic would work for you is to try it. Based on our experience, we insisted on brand name anti-seizure meds, and our doctor makes sure she gets them.
Take care,
Tammy
