My first (24hr) video EEG telemetry, the technician used acetone. Seemed to work at the time but it dried leaving a lot behind. You need to be very careful as it is highly flammable. Nail polish remover contains acetone, and usually some sort of oil.
The other 5 day telemetry – they did use some sort of oil, something like tea tree oil (not sure), but it certainly did not smell of acetone, unless there was some in it and the tea tree oil smell masked it. Still leaves some residue and of course leaves it very greasy, but that washes out.

I had a 24 hour EEG (many years ago), and I remember being told that acetone (nail polish remover) works well.
