Hi I am sill here. I have had my computer hacked making it difficult to connect
with anyone and anything. Had a life threatening seizure attack Labor day weekend.
Took nearly 6 hours in the er to get the seizure to stop. Then had another small one
afterwards. Was kept over all weekend. They had no answer to how the seizure lasted
that long or what caused it. It happened in my sleep.

[Healthy_Recipes_For_Diabetic_Friends] Black Eyed Pea and Stewed Tomato Salad - 21g Carbs, 6g Fiber, 6g Sugar

Black Eyed Pea and Stewed Tomato Salad - 21g Carbs, 6g Fiber, 6g Sugar

From: Vegetarian Times - January/February 2013 p.44
Black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes are a Southern good-luck combo served on New Year's Day. Here, the juices from a can of prepared stewed tomatoes sweeten and flavor the dressing.
Serves: 8

3 cups cooked black-eyed peas OR 2 (15oz cans) unseasoned black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained
1/2 large sweet onion, such as Vidalia or Walla Walla, finely diced (1 cup)
3 medium carrots, peeled and finely diced (1 cup)
3 ribs celery, thinly sliced (1 cup)
1 small green or red bell pepper, finely diced (1 cup)
6 green onions, white and green parts thinly sliced (1 cup)
1 (15oz can) stewed tomatoes
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp Cajun seasoning

1. Combine black-eyed peas, sweet onion, carrots, celery, bell pepper, and green onions in large bowl, and set aside.

2. Drain tomatoes, and place liquid in small saucepan with vinegar, oil, and Cajun seasoning. Coarsely chop tomatoes, and add to black-eyed-pea mixture. Bring tomato-juice-vinegar mixture to a boil, and pour over black-eyed-pea mixture. Stir to coat. Cool, then chill 1 hour. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.

[epilepsy] Suggestion for further group visibility

Hi
Just a personal suggestion.
I think that if we had a website and on it a link to our group....anytime people google stuff about Epilepsy, they would see our site ...possibly visit it and see the link and decide to or not to join.

I can build a free website through WIX....It can contain up to 6 pages.
Again, in my opinion, it would be nice to have a page dedicated to the cases of our group members.
I.E. Each person would do a write up indicating, first name only, age, ..how long they've suffering from epilepsy....Whether they have it under control ? How long under control ? Medications they've been on and are on.

Another page: Each of you could write up about Side Effects of medications you've experienced.

Another page:  Eventful seizures which occurred to you (in reference to circumstances and places) : i.e. My son had his at the cinema the other day.

....And am sure that together we could think of what to fill the other 2 pages with. ...

Of course, it would require each of you contributing to this project by sharing many of your own stories....

...But I think that if the link to the support group would be on it and after others read all of these accounts, people could be interested to join.

Thanks
Simy

Re: [epilepsy] I see many of you unsubscribing lately.

I noticed that when someone asks a question people answer.

I don't recognize some of you anymore.  How about telling us about yourself?

I am Millie.  I live in IN.  I've had EP for  over 50 years.  My last sz was 2 years ago.
Before that I had been sz free for 5 years.  I have been on Dilantin and Phenobarb for
over 20 years.  I have lived in this retirement center for 18 years and love it.
Most of the people in my building know that I have EP because I tell them.
I am 83 years old.

[epilepsy] Re: NTI work at home

First, love the Anne Frank quote.  I have a friend who is in her 50's.  She is having health problems and can't stand or walk much because of her hip.  Her last job was lost because the store closed about 2 years ago.  She doesn't have SSI and hasn't applied.  She does have some experience with medical billing and dental billing.  Could she find something or apply for something with NTI?  She really needs a job and something from home would be a blessing for her family for so many reasons.

How would she go about contacting them?

I interviewed at NTI. They only work with people who are disabled. Their program is designed for people on SSDI/SSI although that is not a requirement. But they do want you to have customer or technical support experience.

Re: [epilepsy] NTI work at home

Nedra,
I think that's a good idea in my opinion. You are allowed to earn a certain amount and not apply towards ticket to work, as I understand it. I was able to find a part-time work from home job a few years ago (which ended in a year) and that's how I did it.
Hearing that your son has autism is a deep thing, my heart goes out to you. Parents, spouses and caretakers need Gods grace, will pray.

Greg

Greg,

I completely understand!  I manage my son's account and try to read through all the material they send.  I don't want to make any mistakes that would impact his future care.   He is now at a place that only employs people on the autism spectrum.  So his job isn't a regular job. I haven't signed him up for ticket to work but just send in his pay info and keep track of what he is earning.

Hi Scott & Nedra,

This does look like it is worth looking into. I am on disability; my monthly income is very little. My concern with A Ticket to Work is that its goal is to get you off of disabilty. Although there are downsides to being on SSDI, I could not afford to get off of it because I did qualify for it.
