Meghan, I indirectly know what you are feeling. I don't drive, not
because of medical problems keeping me from driving, but feeling safer,
not being in a car. A perfect example is my own mother. Every time I am
in her car, she does something reckless. We were in a parking garage
arriving for my dental appointment, when she made a turn to sharply.
Because her particular model of Volvo station wagon being low to the
ground, she scraped the bottom of the car on a concrete walkway. It is
things like that, which are why, I do not like riding in her car.

My preferred form of transportation is my (Tour de France-style)racing
bike. I don't ride in bike lanes because I have seen too many
motorists' not paying attention when a cyclist was in a bike lane.
Because of that experience, I 'take the lane', because I am legally
allowed to do that. My bike is not my complete salvation. But like
you, I would have the same problem with the rain in the PNW.

I too feel like I live a stagnant life. I have no friends other than at
the bike shop. I don't trust people to not use my health problems
against me. As has been done so many times in the past. I was accused
of starting a fire in a house, that I was living in with five other
people. I was accused of almost getting a roommate fired from her job.
I was accused by my (ex)wife n' her parents' of causing all the problems
in our marriage.

I will get off my soapbox now.

The kind of golf cart I am sort of thinking of, in your case, would be
something like the 'Pope mobile', that the Pope travels in, on his
tours. It basically, is a golf cart enclosed in glass.
