Re: [epilepsy] Re: Surgery, reducing meds.

I have complex partial.  The Depakote gave me vivid nightmares and hallucinations and I lost 2/3 of my hair which thankfully I am taking prenatal vitamins, vitamin e, d, zinc and selenium and most of my hair is back to normal.

Sue, what problems did depakote give you? Megan went back to depakote after a rather nightmarish three or so years when her doctor wanted to put her on meds with "less side effects." My god, we went through all kinds of crap with Lamictal. Granted the Keppra just made her so tired at first that she would fall asleep sitting up, but her seizures were never under control during that time, plus she had overdose symptoms, rash, all kinds of problems. In contrast, she seems to have no side effects from depakote, and more importantly, her seizures are controlled! She is taking a second drug topiramate as an add on, which has eliminated even occasional myoclonic, too.

It's funny how different people are. Sue, what types of seizures do you have? Megan has JME, but mostly had generalized tonic clinics. She didn't actually have any myoclonic seizures until she was almost out of high school.
