Prince - Prince Closes Sxsw Festival With Extra Long Performance
18 March 2013Prince tested the endurance of his fans on Saturday (16Mar13) by performing a near three-hour set as he closed out the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
The icon took the stage at the small La Zona Rosa club in a magenta high-collared shirt and fitted jacket, thrilling fans with a collection of hits, including 1999 and Cool, all backed by a 12-piece brass band.
He also played a slow rendition of Purple Rain, Shhh, Extra Lovable, and Musicology, followed by a handful of encores, only stopping in between songs to address the revellers, saying, "Don't make me hurt you. You know how many hits I got?"
As the night dragged on, and exhausted attendees made for an early exit, Prince sang covers of Michael Jackson's Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, We're A Winner by Curtis Mayfield, Janet Jackson's What Have You Done For Me Lately, and The Glamorous Life by Sheila E.
He finally finished up around 3am local time, capping off an action-packed week, which included performances by Green Day, Justin Timberlake, and the Flaming Lips.
