[epilepsy] Re: possible vns? 2 yrs post op

HI,
My son had VNS in Feb. We are ready to go through the long adjustment process they say it could take to see if it will give him control. The literature says it could be 2 years. So far, it does seem to reduce some of the clusters of seizures he would have. I haven't done the statisics on the data I keep. His voice was hoarse, not right after the surgery but it started about a week after. That has started to greatly diminish. So he hasn't had any problems. He does sometimes cough when the VNS goes off but not every time. The setting was adjusted once and his doctor is conservative in how she manages it. So we are very pleased and hopeful. Would we do it again, YES! But with all these things, meds and other treatments they vary with people. Gather info on it and also gather info on your surgeon.
