Re: [epilepsy] Re: switching from brand to generic

Annette,

I haven't been to talk to my neurologist in a while, but I told my family doctor about the switch the pharmacy made with the Keppra to the generic and how I was having more seizures and felt like I was going to have them all the time, and he got the medicine preauthorized for me. I didn't have any trouble having it done.It takes a doctor to have it done though. The pharmacy told me medicaid wouldn't pay for it a few months ago and after taking it and telling my doctor I got it changed back. People can say what they want to about the generics being the same, but I just don't think so. I had the same trouble when I was on Depakote too.I didn't have to have bloodwork done either. I did have to call the pharmacy a couple of days before I went to pick it up so it could be preauthorized again. Maybe you need to talk to another doctor or something. If you start having more seizures than you did before I would. Take care

I had to call the pharmacy I go to the other day a couple of days before to get it preauthorized again.I am glad you didn't have no problems keeping it. I don't like the generics, but sometimes you have to take them when medicaid won't pay for them.Take care.
