Hello everyone, My name is Jessica. My husband has a history of
seizures. On Fri I had a tramatic experiance with one of his
seizures. I had wrote a blog not long after it happened while it was
still fresh in my mind. I would now like to copy the blog onto here
because frankly I need people to talk to who can relate and
understand.
This is a copy of the blog I wrote early Sat morning. I couldn't
sleep because my mind was racing after the traumatic experience I had
on Fri 2/20/09.

Blogging for my sanity.

Yesterday, 2/20/09, I endured the most terrifying near death
experience. I'm not sure how I was able to make it through but I'm
glad I did. God must have sent me 10 or more guardian angles to help
me out while death was on my tail. I am going to tell you all about
my experience and try not to leave anything out. This will be my
therapy.
So, here goes. As some of you might know, my hubby has a history of
seizures. I always thought they were sleep apnea related, now I know
better. He had a seizure yesterday on the way home from eating lunch
at his work with his mom. We do this every Fri. The terrifying part
is that he was the one behind the wheel. It started out with me
trying to talk to him and he was being oddly quiet. The only response
i got was after I asked him if he was OK. He huffed and said "I don't
know." I tried to ask him a few more questions with no response. Then
the twitching of his head and face started, his head turning towards
me. At first I thought he was playing around and I got a little mad.
I said "Don't play, don't you fucking play!". When the twitching
started to quickly increase into full muscle jerking, I then realized
it was real. My adrenaline kicked in and I reacted. My first thought
was "Fuck! His foot is on the gas pedal! I have to stop this car
now!". While he is seizing, the car starts to quickly go faster. I
grab the wheel with on hand and try to wrap my arm around his right
leg and lift it off the gas pedal. When that didn't work I attempted
to get my foot over to the brake pedal, all the while still trying to
steer the car with one hand at increasing speeds and dodging the
other cars on the Powhite highway. That didn't work either, I ended
up pushing his leg harder on to the gas pedal. I then started to
scream out of terror. While dodging other cars, I hit the jersey wall
by accident bouncing off of it. The car still kept going with me
screaming for my life and steering from the passengers seat. The
seizing paused for a second and he started to fall over on me. Then
it started up again and I thought "Emergency Brake!!". So, still
dodging cars and steering with one hand, I grab the emergency brake
with my other hand and yank it up. With him still seizing and his
foot still on the gas, the car did not stop. It did slow down so I
could better control it off the highway onto an on-ramp. On the ramp
there was a triangular, grassy, curbed median where the road forked.
When I saw it I thought "ooh, curb!!" So, with the car slowing down
some but not stopping, I steer the car towards the curb and bounce it
up on the curb. The car finally stopped and I immediately throw it
into park and turn on the hazards. One pick-up truck that I almost
crashed into (out of many close calls) had followed me till I got the
car stopped. As he's running towards the car to check on us while on
the phone with 911, I was jumping out of the car and falling to the
ground. I was shaking so bad that my legs would not hold me up. And
yes people, this ordeal included Layla in her car seat in the
backseat. The guy that followed me till i stopped the car told me to
just sit down on the ground. He walked around the car and got Layla
out because she was crying and took her to his truck and put her
inside and closed the door. He then walked to our car and tried to
talk to Tim who was still out of it. That guy stayed there with me
till the ambulance and police showed up. He gave a statement to the
police because he saw most of what happened. The cops where praising
me saying "I don't know how you did it but you did a great job". I
honestly don't know either. I couldn't really think, just react. I
also have no idea how fast we were going but if i had to guess,
probably close to 90mph or faster. I couldn't have looked down at the
speed, even for a millisecond, because we probably would have crashed
and died.
So, we were told that Tim probably has a general case of epilepsy
that should be easily controlled with meds. This is by the way the
first diagnosis we have gotten. The other doctors were incompetent it
seems. Tim can not drive for 6 months and will probably have to be
cleared by the neurologist before he can drive again. I will now
drive him back and forth, to and from work. We are so lucky to be
alive right now and have no damage to the car except for the cracked
hub cap from when we hit the wall. Someone upstairs really likes us,
that's all I can say. We're so damn lucky. Well anyway, we are all
fine. Tim was not admitted to the hospital and now has a prescription
to help with the seizures. It is now 7:35am and I haven't been able
to sleep. I'm now going to try to get some sleep, nighty night!
